This is a first step in the right direction. The right of first sale should trump all EULAs, and so should personal modification. The article refers to [ DRM (digital restrictions management) ]( http://DefectiveByDesign.org ) by the unfortunate term [ "digital locks" ]( http://gnu.org/philosophy/words-to-avoid.html#DigitalLocks ) . This grants them legitimacy by comparing them to ordinary locks. Please criticize that term when you see it.
